The Nebraska Initiative
A Tactile Images partnership introduces innovative tactile exhibitions to Nebraska museums, guiding the future of inclusive engagement.
In a groundbreaking public/private partnership, the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired has joined forces with Nebraska museums to make select exhibitions accessible to all – blind, disabled, and sighted visitors alike. With tactile exhibitions that can be experienced through touch and embedded audio, museums ensure that visual information is accessible to everyone. This initiative not only enriches educational experiences for blind individuals, but also fosters a more inclusive cultural environment where diversity and accessibility are celebrated.
This initiative serves as a model for state agencies, commissions, and cultural institutions nationwide. By demonstrating how accessibility can be seamlessly integrated into cultural experiences, Nebraska is leading the way in creating inclusive spaces that honor and reflect the diverse tapestry of our shared history. We encourage other states to follow Nebraska's example, making accessibility a nationwide priority and ensuring that cultural institutions across the country are welcoming to all.
